Kelynn Carter Poinsette is an associate in the Houston office of Resnick & Louis, P.C. where she focuses her practice primarily on the representation of insurance defense and general civil litigation. Prior to joining Resnick & Louis, Kelynn practiced insurance defense and generalized civil litigation. She also worked as a Judicial Staff Attorney managing a civil docket of approximately 250 cases where she researched and prepared the Court’s orders in a variety of practice areas including complex civil litigation, medical malpractice, products liability, tort actions, and consumer actions.
She earned her Juris Doctor at Cleveland State University - Cleveland Marshall College of Law. During law school, she was active on the Cleveland State Law Review, Student Bar Association, The Dean’s Admissions Committee, and sat on local, regional, and national boards of the National Black Law Students Association. She was also a finalist for the Dean’s Learn Law, Live Justice Award in 2018 upon graduation. She participated in numerous Civil Litigation Clinics where she worked with senior attorneys to represent clients in issues surrounding housing, civil rights, LGBTQ rights, and small business disputes.
Kelynn was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She attended Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, and thereafter returned to Cleveland for law school where she practiced law until she moved to Texas with her family.
She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and spends a lot of her time giving back and serving her community. In her free time, Mrs. Carter loves traveling with her husband and children, cooking, trying new restaurants, and shopping.
Kelynn is licensed to practice law in Texas and Ohio.
