Eydith J. Kaufman has 25 years of experience as a civil litigation attorney, handling a variety of cases including insurance defense, medical malpractice, personal injury, automobile accidents, wrongful death, professional liability, employment discrimination and harassment, commercial and business claims, contractual disputes, property damage, environmental claims, bad faith, coverage and wrongful death. When starting out, she primarily handled defense work, but also worked on some plaintiff cases, resulting in her first trial as a second chair in a plaintiff’s pregnancy discrimination case. As a result this background, Ms. Kaufman is able to evaluate cases well from all sides and anticipate what issues may arise in the course of litigation.
From 2010 to 2015, Ms. Kaufman focused solely on defending physicians and small clinics from medical malpractice claims and lawsuits, and related legal concerns. In 2015, she returned to insurance defense work in San Diego, handling primarily complex injury cases in a high volume trial firm. Her last trial involved multiple injured parties bringing suit against a governmental agency, where Ms. Kaufman’s work on a nonsuit motion helped achieve a judgment in favor of the agency.
Ms. Kaufman previously taught Insurance Law as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of San Diego. She has served as an Advisor and Guest Lecturer at PIMA Medical Institute. She enjoys mentoring and educating others about the law and being responsive to the unique needs of each client. She likes to think out-of-the-box when approaching challenges and come up with creative solutions to problems where appropriate. She has extensive experience attending mediations and is highly successful at moving a case towards resolution through settlement.
